Audience vs Total Minutes vs Reach

The example below illustrates the difference between these metrics.
Audience: The average number of people watching in any given minute for the period.
Total Minutes: The total sum of minutes viewed across the program or time band.
Reach: The total number of unique viewers who have watched at least 1 minute of broadcast TV (or >15 seconds of BVOD).

Over the five-minute period (18:00-18:04):

  • Average Audience = 1,000,000
  • Total Minutes = 5,000,000
  • Reach = 1,270,000 distinct people

In summary, Audience represents the average number of people viewing in any minute, Total Minutes the sum of all viewer minutes across the period, and Reach the unique individuals exposed at least once during the period.
