Viewing behaviour in OzTAM and Regional TAM panel homes is a key input to the VOZ Total TV database. The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted access to those homes for maintaining, installing and removing TV metering equipment (which occurs as part of normal panel management). The collection of census-level data for BVOD viewing on connected devices does not require access to homes and so is unaffected.
OzTAM and Regional TAM maintain a robust audience sample size in all markets, which was enhanced in 2016-17 by a 50% increase in the number of TV panel homes. With our research supplier Nielsen we continue our daily rigorous protocols to ensure the integrity and reliability of TV ratings data, and there is no cause for concern at this time.
While we focus on the core TAM (for linear TV) and VPM (for BVOD) currency metrics, an inevitable consequence of this unexpected and unprecedented Covid-19 related disruption is the delay in delivery of VOZ data to market, which was planned for late April 2020. OzTAM, Regional TAM and Nielsen continue to trial and interrogate the new VOZ Total TV database, and are working with broadcasters, agencies and software providers to integrate VOZ into their systems.
We’re excited to introduce VOZ data to the market when the time is right. In the current climate however, focusing on the core TV and BVOD currencies is the right thing to do for panel household members, our teams, clients and everyone who depends on our data. We thank our data subscribers for their continued support and wish everyone health and safety in this uncertain time.
